The 2025 WGA (Women’s Golf Association League) Saturday Fundraiser was a beautiful blend of fun, fellowship, and philanthropy at The Preserve Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee on July 23, 2025. The morning kicked off with PJ’s coffee and muffins as the buzz and excitement built, leading to an elated turnout of 55 women golfers, all teeing off to support the Circle of Love Center, a 24/7 emergency shelter and resource center for victims of domestic violence and their children. The organization serves Greene, Putnam, Morgan, Baldwin, and Hancock counties, providing safe shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, and support services to help survivors build lives free from abuse.
WGA Saturday accommodates working women and weekend and part-time residents who cannot participate in the traditional WGA Tuesday League. This inclusive league allows more golfers to enjoy the game, connect with others, and, as this event showed, give back to the community in meaningful ways.
Marie-elena Gray spearheaded the event, alongside committee members Diane Chapman and Christine Chrisco. Diane, a longtime supporter of Circle of Love for over two decades, expressed her excitement about helping raise awareness of the organization’s mission.
The generosity of the community was on full display. Local businesses and individuals donated a variety of gift cards and prizes. Special thanks go to the Diamond Sponsors, Tom Altomare and Marie-elena Gray, Bronze Sponsors Kim and Lin Logan Real Estate, Zapien’s Salon, and IMA 100. Heartfelt thanks also go to the following Prize Donors: The Well, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Madeline Page, The Barking Dog, Sammy’s, Scratcher’s Creek, and Oconee Cleaners. Chick-fil-A. generously provided lunch for the event.
In total, $7,770 was raised to support the essential services provided by Circle of Love. In addition to monetary donations, participants brought much-needed supplies for families staying at the shelter.
“We can never have enough feminine products, toiletries, and cleaning supplies,” said Circle of Love Executive Director Kimberly Bennett. “We are always so grateful for these essential items.”
Marie-elena Gray expressed her sincere appreciation, “I want to thank all of our sponsors and every woman who came out to play and support this cause. It was hard work, but so rewarding. Knowing ladies who have survived abuse, I am proud to be able to do this in their honor.”
With cooler temperatures and a vibrant atmosphere, the day was a testament to the compassion and energy of the Reynolds Lake Oconee community. “This is a perfect example of how generous and fun our community really is,” added Bennett.
